| Kerry Daigle and George Foreman |
A few short years ago a very good friend of mine that I admire tremendously
gave me some simple advice that literally changed my way of setting goals
and looking towards the future. I’ve always been over anxious on many
issues and sometimes would over-whelm my friends and business associates
by expecting results much too quickly when my friend told me to always look
at challenges, goals, and dreams ONE DAY AT A TIME.
About 4000 or so years ago there were written words that said:
“ Look well to this one day, for it and it alone
is life. In the brief course of this one day lie all the realities
of your existence; the pride of growth,
the glory of action, the splendor of beauty. Yesterday is only a dream
and tomorrow is but a vision. Yet each day, well lived, makes
every yesterday
a dream of happiness and each tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well, therefore,
to this one day, for it and it alone is life.”
Of course you always hear me speaking about DREAMS,
FAIRY TALES, AND MIRACLES which I live my life by, however,
I always had that one piece missing until
I heard those simple words…ONE DAY AT A TIME.
Our lifetime literally consists of years, months, weeks, days, hours,
minutes, and seconds. The one basic unit we live by is a single day,
therefore,
try to live successfully one day at a time. Reaching goals and achieving
successes
is nothing more than many successful days all strung together. Each day
you need to acquire some success and results to start a foundation of
creating a successful life for yourself. You can only live ONE DAY
AT A TIME. What
is important is what you did that day to perform successfully. You must
know
the difference between activity and productivity. Activity is keeping
busy with no end results in mind while productivity is a results oriented
task
of doing something that will have positive end results to move you forward
in your career and business or personal life. The most happy people I’ve
worked with are those who perform to the best of their ability each and
every day. I hear those words ringing in my ears, ONE DAY AT A TIME, every
time I encounter a problem and cannot thank my friend enough for mentioning
this to me regularly
in the form of notes, calls, emails, and letters. Once I learned the power
of this simple message I controlled all the problems I created for myself
that caused worry and frustration and despair. Worrying about what happened
yesterday or dreading what might happen tomorrow is irrelevant. It is then
I realized that worrying about yesterdays that are now history and the
tomorrows that may never come only create problems and stunted
my quest for achieving
my goals by not spending all my time on creating good positive results
ONE DAY AT A TIME. I’ve have learned the hard way that anyone
can fight any battle for one day.
Reaching goals daily and having those goals completed before
going to the next goal is the simple formula that comes from this
philosophy developing
habits of successes therefore assuring that one day you will be successful
in achieving those dreams. That is when FAIRY TALES become reality and
MIRACLES happen because of handling your DREAMS ONE DAY AT A TIME.
Thinking this way will give you the opportunity to overcome all
hurdles and obstacles as you handle situations with patience. This
simple plan
will build
mental strength and the ability to turn obstacles into opportunities.
As the saying goes, “When the going gets tough, the tough get
going.” There
is also another saying from one of my mentors I live by which is, “For
things to change you have to change…for things to get better
you have to get better.” To be able to abide by this philosophy
there will be times you will have to perform at your best when you
are not
in the mood
to do so. Once you accomplish this feat you will feel the power within
you to tackle any situation ONE DAY AT A TIME.
We, as human beings, create a habit to take things for granted
underestimating our powers to overcome fear, depression, and challenges
and look for
an easy way out of tough situations by just giving up. The great
British Prime
Minister
Winston Churchill said words that have been repeated millions of
times by the successful people on this planet…simple words…NEVER
GIVE UP... NEVER, NEVER, GIVE UP!
I’ve learned in life that the history of us as human beings
is the ability to turn failures into successes, losses into wins,
and conquer the
odds. I remember George Foreman answering a reporter who asked, “What
makes you think you can do what no one has ever done before…winning
the heavyweight championship of the world at the age of 45...an
impossible feat?” His answer was straight forward, “I
am doing this only because I believe I can…I don’t
care what others believe or think....I know what I feel and
that is what’s
important.” You see… Big George made his
comeback at the age of 38 and took ONE DAY AT A TIME and 7 years
later he made history by knocking
out Michael Moorer to win the heavyweight championship of the world
for the second time at the age of 45. George is now training to
make a comeback at
the age of 55. Can George do the impossible again? I won’t
say he can’t
because George Foreman will take this challenge ONE DAY AT A TIME
and when you do… anything is possible.
I want to say thank you to my friend who taught me to look at
every situation ONE DAY AT A TIME because I’ve come to learn that many hundreds of
thousands of people everyday are on the edge of achieving their goals and
dreams but only give up one day too soon. So KEEP PUNCHING…ONE
DAY AT A TIME!
