REGGIE JOHNSON CALLS OUT ANTONIO TARVER
2/20/06 - Reggie Johnson
I read an article where Tarver said he has cleaned out the Light heavyweight
division.
Are you Crazy.
There are more than a few Light heavyweights you can fight, me being one of them.
You beat Roy Jones who was scared to gamble your last fight and the fight before
that you barely edged out Glen Johnson who barely edged you out in the first fight,
and then there's me who fought you in 2002 putting my USBA and NABF title on the
line plus my # 2 ranking by fighting you because that's what real Champions do,
they fight whoever where ever. |

Diaz, Marrone both win at the Turning Stone Casino.
2/25/06 - Mike Indri
But, Jamar Patterson steals the show on ESPN2!
Even though the Turning Stone Casino proved to be a picture perfect venue and the
Fisticuff Promotional team of Dave Escalet and Oscar Diaz had put together a
truly exciting seven bout fight card showcasing several local fighters, all
eyes undoubtedly were on Duva Boxing promoted young heavyweight prospect Mike Marrone. |

In Rusty's Corner
2/22/06 - Rusty Rubin
This week it's Vargas vs. Mosley. As in my last column, little has changed. We'll skip
the rationale, as it was given last week. Vargas by late TKO. Mosley cannot run forever.
However with aging fighters, nothing is a given. Vargas has slowed up, but Mosley has
really slowed down and his legs should allow Fernando to catch him and nail him late
in the bout to cause the stoppage. |

After a controversial loss to Martin Verdin on February 4th at the Blackham Coliseum,

across Acadiana wrote letters to editors of several newspapers to display their
dissatisfaction with two of the judges that night, Kenny Licata and Kenny Santies. |

News comes that ticket sales are poor for the Vargas - Mosley match. Sadly the state of
boxing today, you can name the fighters worth watching on the fingers of both hands,
even if you had a few missing.
Both Vargas and Mosley are pretty much over the hill, although the contrast in styles
can make this an interesting fight to watch, but how much is it worth paying for?
That's the question. |

Better, not bitter boxer
, Prevost promises to bounce back after controversy
2/13/06 - Tom Dodge
He has gone through every emotion over the past 10 days since the controversial
split decision with his fight against Martin Verdin.
"I couldn't believe it," Blake Prevost said of the judge's votes.
"I was shocked at first and then I was angry for a couple of days."
'The Candy Man' admitted that his shock turned to anger has now set his determination to the future. |

Talkin Boxin
2/13/06 - Howie Reed
Now that Super Bowl XL is out of the way it's back to
the sport of boxing. Many younger fans of boxing are
now spending their time and money following the UFC. I
will admit straight away that I know next to nothing
about the UFC. I know it sells out here in Las Vegas,
is on Spike TV and has a loyal following. |

There aren't a lot of exciting fights (on paper) this weekend, but since fights are fought in the ring, it doesn't much matter.
A fight, while perhaps not the weekends best, but certainly of the most interest is between
aging super middleweights with veteran Scott Pemberton, coming off a TKO loss to Jeff Lacy
and young up and comer Peter Manfredo Jr.
Will youth be served? And if so at what temperature? |

'THE BAYOU BOMBER' WINS BY KO IN 2ND ROUND
2/9/06 - Kerry Daigle
BOBBY AUCOIN STAYS UNDEFEATED IN 17 FIGHTS
Aucoin tested the junior welterweight division in this fight. "He can still make lightweight
and even jr lightweight if we need to for an important fight," says Daigle, "but right
now we are going to campaign as a junior welterweight and test that division. Bobby
is much stronger, has more energy, and is actually quicker at that weight." |

SUPERFIGHTER: truly a "heavyweight" event!
2/6/06 - Mike Indri
June extravaganza set to rejuvenate the sport of Boxing.
For the longest time the talk within boxing has been revolved around the sad state of
the heavyweight division; and it's inability or unwillingness of the division's four
champions (IBF: Chris Byrd, WBA: Nicolay Valuev, WBC: Hasim Rahman, and WBO: Lamon
Brewster) to step up and unify the title. |
