3/30/07 - Jim Amato

Mikkel Kessler is 28 years old. He sports a 39-0 record. He is the WBA and WBC super middleweight
titleholder. All that is missing is world wide recognition.
On April 5th former heavyweight contender Lou Savarese will have his third fight since 2004
when he meets Matt Hicks ( 10-1 with 10 KO's ) in Houston. |

Saturday March 17th on HBO/PPV, Marco Antonio Barrera will put his WBC Super Featherweight title

It may be soon that the boring heavyweight division will produce some fights that may
actually be of interest to the fans. |

James J. Woody & Ali’s Close Shave (r’s)
3/24/07 - Jim Amato

Although he ended his career losing almost as many bouts as he won. At one time in the mid-60's
heavyweight James J. Woody was considered a fine prospect.
He was a southpaw from the Bronx who had his first professional fight in 1964.
It was to be the last time the incomparable Muhammad Ali would ever successfully defend the
heavyweight championship. It would be held in boxing’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden. |

Handling of Current Heavyweight Mandatories is the Problem!
3/13/07 - Big Media Buzz
“One organization forced a true champion to fight a bum mandatory, and on the other side
another organization is preventing their true mandatory from fighting the champion.”
Dino Duva
Still embroiled in prolonged negotiations for his fighter Samuel Peter’s twice-earned shot
at the WBC Heavyweight Champion Oleg Maskaev |

Barry and Danny & Ali-Frazier 1
3/12/07 - Jim Amato

Sorry...I just could not get over this one. I tried but but I could not come to terms with it.
When it was first announced that Barry McGuigan was being inducted into the International Boxing
Hall Of Fame in Canastota, New York in 2005 I was a bit surprised.
There are certain dates that will stick with you as long as you live. Your birthday, the birthdays
of family members, anniversaries, the day that you got your divorce ( s ), etc...Happy and important
days that mark milestones in your life. |

In Rusty's Corner
3/15/07 - Rusty Rubin

This week there’s a great fight at Mandalay Bay where Marco Antonio Barrera takes on hard hitting Juan Manuel
Marquez in what appears to be a real barn burner.
Both fighters have no problem going toe to toe, and both have great hearts and chins. A fight that
is definitely worth seeing. |

Ibragimov annihilates Mora at the MSG Theater!

Greenberg, Santana and "Kid Chocolate" all win at boxing’s Mecca.
With the 2,478 in attendance at the Madison Square Garden Theater and pneumonia stricken WBO Champion
Shannon Briggs at home in Florida, Sultan Ibragimov needed only 46 seconds to blow away Brigg’s replacement,
Javier Mora, and set the stage for Ibragimov’s shot at the World Boxing Organization’s version of
the heavyweight championship. |

Roy Jones Jr. & Austin upset over Klitscho?
3/10/07 - Jim Amato

The " Super Middleweight " division with a 168 pound weight limit was conceived by the
International Boxing Federation in 1984. On March 28th of that year rugged Murray Sutherland
pounded out a fifteen round decision over Ernie Singletary in Atlantic City to become the first
champion of this bastard weight classification.
Saturday ( March 10, 2007 ) in Germany, Ray Austin will challenge Wladimir Klitschko who many feel
is the best heavyweight in the world today. The fight will be for Klitschko's International Boxing
Federation heavyweight title.. |

GREG PAGE
3/8/07 - Patricia Love Page

On March 9th, 2001,
Former WBA heavyweight champion Greg Page entered a boxing ring in a smoky bar in Erlanger,
Ky called Peel's Palace. He would be fighting young up-and-comer Dale Crowe, local fan favorite.
On the line, the Ky Heavyweight Championship belt and perhaps a step towards staking claim to
one of the bigger prize belts. This night would change his life forever. |

In the main event, the newest addition to Duva Boxing’s stable, Darnell “Ding-a-Ling Man”

"TIGER" THOMPSON / & / JERMAIN TO MEET MORA
3/01/07 - Jim Amato

I made the mistake of staying up late last night to watch the heavyweight contest between prospects
Tony " Tiger " Thompson and Tibor Igragimov ( brother of Sultan ). I expected a decent, competitive battle.
Thompson had a good record and had defeated Dominick Guinn.
I'll bet Kelly Pavlik the unbeaten middleweight contender from Youngstown, Ohio is fit to
be tied. Kelly who is eager and very much deserving of a title shot is still on the waiting
list. |

3/1/07 - Mike Indri

Fight with Maddalone next step towards undisputed quest.
Tuesday’s New York press conference announcing the Main Events promoted Evander Holyfield vs.
Vinny Maddalone heavyweight showdown set for March 17th did little to answer boxing’s ultimate
question of the four-time former world champion:
WHY ARE YOU STILL FIGHTING? |
