Warning to Gomez: It's not TV, it's Gatti and HBO!
5/23/07 - Mike Indri

Facing "Thunder" in AC too big a step up for ex-contender?
If television's reality boxing series "The Contender" has done anything for it's participants, it has provided several young fighters with very rare and beneficial mainstream exposure, as well as some well deserved finances. |

Hands Of Stone book review & Pernell Whitaker
5/19/07 - Jim Amato

Roberto Duran is my favorite fighter of all time. Because of this fact I thought I may be a little bias in my opinion of the book " Hands Of Stone ". Would I over rate it because the subject was Duran or would I be too harsh and expect too much ? ***
Pernell Whitaker is being inducted into the International Boxing Hall Of Fame in a few weeks. This is an honor he richly deserves. His storied amateur career along with his " Who's Who " list of boxers he met in the professional ranks surely entitles him to this honor. What a career he had ! |

In Rusty's Corner

The passing of Diego Corrales via a motorcycle accident brought to mind the mid 1980 death of another top boxer, James ‘Black Gold’ Shuler, who, after fighting a strong but losing fight to Tommy Hearns, in Vegas, returned to his hometown of Philadelphia, PA., only to buy a new motorcycle and on a wet evening there a few days later, ran his new bike into another vehicle, killing him instantly. |

Hopkins vows to crush "Winky the Twinkie"!
5/17/07 - Mike Indri

Still beaming from their all-time record setting Oscar De La Hoya-Floyd Mayweather mega-event, which drew close to 2.2 million pay-per-view buys, amassing over 120 million dollars-as well as picking up another 19 million dollars from the live gate at the sold out MGM Grand Garden Arena, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer and HBO executives Ross Greenberg and Mark Taffet, kicked off the five city press tour for the July 21st clash between Bernard Hopkins and Winky Wright. |

The Fall of Big John Tate & Cott0-judah Preview
5/14/07 - Jim Amato

He was to be the heir apparent to the retired Muhammad Ali. He was a big strong heavyweight who could box. Yes Larry Holmes was the holder of the World Boxing Council's version of the heavyweight title. Larry had been embarrassed though in the amateurs by Duane Bobick.
Which fight will end up being the 2007 Fight Of The Year ? Well it hasn't happened yet but I will be surprised if the upcoming Miguel Cotto - Zab Judah contest isn't high on the list at the end of the year. |

In Rusty's Corner
5/13/07 - Rusty Rubin

If Oscar vs. Mayweather was a make it or break it fight for boxing, as some people indicated in pre-fight predictions, our sport is in a lot of trouble. I kept it simple, telling people it will probably not be a great fight, but strategy wise, a very interesting contest. |

MIKE “EL TORITO” MARTINEZ VS JOEY ‘KO’ HIXON
5/9/07 - Tom Dodge
A former Marine, Michael Martinez hopes that his life experience and good punch will help him earn another win Saturday May 12th at the Mari Center in the Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville, Louisiana.
Martinez is part of the Redemption or Retirement card that highlights Bobby “The Bayou Bomber” Aucoin along with the rematch between Juan De la Rosa and Mikel Williams. |

Boxing missed a "Golden" opportunity.
5/9/07 - Mike Indri

Floyd-Oscar fails to deliver to targeted mainstream audience.
When all the HBO Pay-Per-View numbers are officially announced, this past Saturday night's fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather will further confirm the fact that boxing is not dead; or at least not the business of boxing. |

Casey Gacic & The Rite Of Passage
5/9/07 - Jim Amato

He was from Parma, Ohio and he only had twenty one fights in a career that spanned from 1971 to 1979. Still he fought tough completion and he fought well enough to be ranked by the " Bible Of Boxing ", Ring Magazine.
" Out with the old, in with the new ". How many times have we heard that phrase in our lifetimes ? Or " the young eat the old " ? The aging champion, however great he may have been must step aside for Father Time. |

The Dream Team
5/8/07 - Robbie ‘Boom Boom’ Davis

I reached an artist this morning. And during our conversation he painted a
picture of a state of the heart living machine.
Bobby Aucoin is an artist. A knockout artist. His canvas is large by
traditional artistic standards....24 feet by 24 feet. He uses only splotches
of red mixed with sweat, creating unconscious works, unforgettable to those who
have visited his roped-off showings.
An artist has no choice but to pursue his art because it is what he or she must
do...it is a passion that surpasses understanding.
"A fighter fights," says Rocky Balboa -- in the art of film. Fiction that is
fact. Art -- sometimes -- imitates life and sometimes encapsulates it. |

Juan Diaz, a "Baby" Bull no more!
5/8/07 - Mike Indri

Big time win over Freitas answers all the questions.
While in New York earlier this month, Juan "Baby Bull" Diaz explained his reason for sporting a trimmed beard and moustache.
"I'm not a sixteen-year-old kid anymore, I'm a world champion and I'm going to prove I'm a man," reasoned the humble and extremely likable twenty-three-year-old college student, who just happens to be the World Boxing Association's lightweight champion. |

Hello fight fans!!!! Your humble correspondent is back.
5/8/07 - Ron Miller
The man who
tells it like it is. I'm in no one's "pocket". I have no allegiances.
I have no friends. The man you love to hate. The man of the hour, too
sweet to be sour!!! You know THIS, man!!! I'm bringin' sexy back. |

A HEART TO HEART STORY WITH PROFESSIONAL BOXER
BOBBY “THE BAYOU BOMBER” AUCOIN
5/7/07 - Robbie ‘Boom Boom’ Davis

Bobby Aucoin is an artist. A knockout artist. His canvas is large by
traditional artistic standards....24 feet by 24 feet. He uses only splotches
of red mixed with sweat, creating unconscious works, unforgettable to those who

"A fighter fights," says Rocky Balboa -- in the art of film. Fiction that is
fact. Art -- sometimes -- imitates life and sometimes encapsulates it.
Boxing films and stories are captivating because they do reflect the drama of
real life on a stage. From the true fairy tale of Cinderella Man, to the
one-and-only legend of ALI to the fictional yet truly inspirational Rocky,
man's most primal instinct -- fight or flight -- one man versus another in combat has been recorded since the day David defeated Goliath.
That fiction is fact for one real-life man in south Louisiana. A
professional and master in the making, Bobby "The Bayou Bomber" Aucoin recently had his
heart called into question. |

The state has agreed to pay $1.2 million to former heavyweight fighter Greg Page to settle allegations that it failed to have proper safety measures in place at a fight in 2001 when he suffered catastrophic brain injuries.
The settlement signed this week also calls for new boxing regulations enacted last year to be called the “Greg Page Safety Initiative.” |

5/4/07 - Tom Dodge

With backgrounds in both Zydeco and boxing, Wilford Scypion Jr. is ready to make music in the ring.
Scypion is the grandson of late Texas Zydeco musician L. C. Donatto and the son of boxing legend Wilford Scypion Jr.
Scypion is living up to both namesakes as a member of J. Paul and the Zydeco Nubreeds - playing washboard and singing vocals in the band while preparing for his professional boxing debut May 12 at the Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville. |
