You never know when a veteran fighter is able to get up for a fight, or comes out flat. Such was the case with Marco Antonio Barrera, a veteran of many ring wars, who came to fight in Vegas last weekend, stopping Rocky Juarez late in their rematch. I figured at 6-1, Juarez, who in my view one their first fight (called a draw), would be stronger, but Marco still has a lot left, and proved it.

Barrera-Juarez II: This one won‘t be too close to call!     9/20/06 - Mike Indri
Leading up to this highly anticipated rematch both fighters made promises of victory.
Marcos Antonio Barrera, with the feeling that he may have gotten a very favorable decision in the first fight, stated he would lead Juarez by the hand and teach him a lesson. Juarez still smarting from a title worthy effort in which the only three people that probably didn’t feel he won that unforgettable night were, unfortunately, the judges, confidently said he would be more aggressive this time and fight the best style necessary to win.

A lot of important fights upcoming. On Friday, in England, Junior Witter takes on DeMarcus Corley in a Jr. Welterweight go I have to like the home-cooking on this one, and take Witter by decision.
Three important fights at the MGM Vegas this weekend, highlighted by the Marco Antonio Barrera Jr. Lightweight re-match with Rocky Juarez. I thought Juarez won the first fight, and I don’t think he’s going to let it go to the judges this time. Juarez by late TKO.

Barrera-Juarez II: This one won‘t be too close to call!     9/13/06 - Mike Indri
First fight leaves both fighters looking for redemption.
As if the Barrera-Juarez II world title fight isn’t enough, there will be two other world championship matches scheduled for Saturday night.

Reggie Johnson is back...!! Any takers?     9/13/06 - Rich Bergeron
Southpaw Light Heavyweight Reggie Johnson (43-7-1, 25 KO’s) is looking to seal his place in the Boxing Hall of Fame in his latest comeback. He came off a three-year layoff from what he calls “the ultimate sport” to score a 9th round knockout of journeyman Fred Moore (30-4-0, 27 KO’s at the time of their bout) last August. He is now arranging his next fight, and he’s not looking for any pushovers.

Sometimes it’s hard to agree with a decision, which doesn’t make one right or wrong, just leaves us wondering who was watching a different fight?   One of the most interesting fights of the year was held on Sept. 2nd, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.   The deeply religious and very likable, hard punching Samuel Peter was awarded a split decision over James Toney, with the winner, Peter now having a title fight with Oleg Maskaev.

"Micky Ward has yet to stop fighting!"     9/2/06 - Mike Indri
Prior to his retirement from boxing in 2003, Micky Ward had spent close to twenty years battling one tough opponent after another. His three epic brawls with Arturo Gatti will forever be a part of boxing folklore and has elevated the status of both deserving fighters to that of legendary heights, amongst their peers and the boxing public.
