Making the Rounds

Tyson bankrupt

It started as a rumor, but it proved accurate. Mike Tyson owes far more then he’s worth and has filed for bankruptcy protection.

In truth, I feel bad for Iron Mike, as he never had the ability or at least the patience to go out and hire an expert to handle his riches. Sadly that goes with his personality, and the fact that it seems to be hard to remain friends with Mike, as he can change as quickly as a chameleon. How is he going to survive after his boxing career is over, which it almost is anyway?

That doesn’t make Mike a bad guy; it makes him a guy who got into the ring with some mental problems, which obviously hasn’t been helped by taking shots to the head by the heavyweights.

Personally, I like Mike, but I don’t like the way he represents our sport. I never thought of him as an all-time great heavyweight and I doubt history will either. I wish I knew that he could stay on his best behavior for a week because I think he’d enjoy the cruise we’re having.

But I doubt that can be done, because even if Mike was under medication to control himself, and he’s a heck of a nice guy when he’s medicated and/or wants to be. The problem is I doubt the cruise line would allow someone with Mike’s volatile personality to board and pose a potential threat to other passengers, who sadly would probably never understand.

Add to that, the fact that he’s a target for anyone on the ship that wants to yell “rape or molestation” and you can see the problem is real.

Still, I do wish Mike all the best and hope that when he emerges from bankruptcy, he gets a good financial advisor to handle his affairs.

True or False?

Rumors in boxing are like flies on…well, you get the idea. But many rumors are based at least in part in fact…Here are a few of them and you can decide for yourself which ones may or may not happen or have happened.

Oscar v. Mayorga? It can happen.***
Ricardo who is one of the hardest punches in boxing has insulted another former great Nicaraguan fighter, Alexis Arguello, when Alexis expressed his surprise that Mayorga both smoked and drank beer. Mayorga allegedly called Arguello a drug addict and a few choice other names.***

Barrera vs. Pacquaio in November? Word is it’s a go!***

Roger Mayweather vs. Julio Diaz in Michigan in Nov. also looks like a done deal.***

Oscar Larrios vs. Verapol Sahaprom looks like an upcoming match tailor made for excitement.***

Shane Mosley has lost some confidence off his last three fights and is working hard on improving his defense for his upcoming match with Oscar de la Hoya.

Doubt the validity in the rumor that Felix Trinidad is back in training in Puerto Rico, but is it possible?***

Agree or disagree, I'd like to hear from you.***

For the record, while we are no longer actively seeking investors, anyone
interested in being a part of the fastest growing boxing magazine and
website in the world, please contact Roland Munoz at our business office
201-659-0279 or e-mail him at Roland66@optonline.net.***

Glove2Glove is a non-denominational group that gives comfort to boxers and
boxing people in need of cards and prayers. It's free to join and we never
contact you unless we need your emotional support. We don't ask for any
money, just for your cards and words of comfort of those in need. All you
have to join is to inform us and give us your e-mail address. It's that
simple.

And Glove2Glove is putting together a cruise to raise money for former
champions Greg Page and Gerald McClellan, both confined to their homes and
putting a huge financial burden on their loving families.

The cruise leaves from Miami on Nov. 23, and goes to Ocho Rios, Cozumel and
the Grand Caymans. It's a great 7 day trip, with guests like Angelo Dundee
coming on board, and is a great way to spend Thanksgiving with family and
friends, and help a great cause as well. (Keep reading this column for updates on surprise guests as well as more information about this event).

You'd think that because of the guests we are arranging to come on board
with us, this cruise would be very expensive. Quite the opposite holds
true. We were able to secure a great fare of $669 per person inclusive,
sans airfare to Miami. Cheaper than your average cruise, with great guests
and for a great cause. And $80 per cabin will be donated to the
Page/McClellan families. Interested? Drop us an e-mail.***

Please say prayers for the Page/McClellan families, who care for these two
boxers that provided boxing fans with much excitement and now need their
support in return.***

Please say prayers for the return to health of Susiey Walker, co-founder of
Glove2Glove, and Cathy Cerola, sister of outstanding referee Elmo Adolph,
both down but not out while fighting cancer.***

Say prayers and send a card to Marty Sommers, c/o Eddy Cohoes Rehab Center, Room #105, 421 W. Columbia St., Cohoes, NY 12047. Marty is a great fight fan, who is down with Parkinson’s and needs some serious cheering up. Don’t let him quit!***

If you have or know of anyone connected with the boxing community who needs
our support, please notify us via our e-mail.***

Touching on politics briefly: It seems like Al Quada is now threatening America with threats of terrorism if anything bad happens to the terrorist scum of theirs that we’re holding at Guantanamo Bay, hopefully for a military trial and the firing squad.

Let’s get this straight. If we let these worthless pieces of trash live, and maybe send Bin Laden some candy and flowers, they can be trusted not to launch another surprise attack like Sept. 11. Does anyone really believe we can trust these refugees from an over loaded sewer?

No matter your feelings about President Bush and his Cabinet they are not morons. Only morons would negotiate with terrorists.

But I, for one, would rather see our troops chasing down more of these scumbags in Afghanistan then seeing our bravest being killed in Iraq, where the UN or a joint task force could do the job. Bin Laden is a far bigger threat to world peace then Saddam could ever have dreamed of being.

We did our job in Iraq. It’s time we let the peacekeepers take over. We have far better use for our military.

Agree or disagree, feel free to write back, as everyone's views are valued
and respected.
