In Rusty’s
Corner
With Rusty Rubin
Jones vs. Sanders
A bit of a surprise here: Corrie Sanders, who KO’d
Wladamir Klitschko in one of the years biggest upsets, will defend
his WBO title against Roy Jones Jr., Nov. 8, in Las Vegas.
We had expected Roy to be fighting in Africa, possible
Mike Tyson, but that fight never materialized, and with Lennox Lewis
considering retirement, that didn’t leave Jones a lot of choices.
Hard to say why the fight will go in the U.S., as Sanders,
being from South Africa would have seemed, an African City would
have seemed the obvious choice.
But the good news is that since the fight is in the U.S.,
HBO will be showing in live and at a time that we can all enjoy
it.***
Lewis to retire?
I know I suggested that Lewis step down after his lucky
stoppage win over Vitali Klitschko, and I’m not conceded enough
to believe he listened to me, but I do believe that he listened
to his body, which is the correct thing to do.
Lewis took a year off before facing Klitschko, and it
showed. The older you get the longer it is to get in shape and the
harder it is to stay in shape.
Lewis is a smart young man, who doesn’t need the
money. I think he sees the writing on the wall, and even though
it’s a very weak heavyweight division, he doesn’t need
the money.
So why not hang up the gloves when you’re at the
top, and still have all your faculties?
Lennox had a great run and will leave behind a solid
legacy when he steps down.***
Agree or disagree, I'd like to hear from you.***

Glove2Glove is a non-denominational group that gives
comfort to boxers and
boxing people in need of cards and prayers. It's free to join and
we never
contact you unless we need your emotional support. We don't ask
for any
money, just for your cards and words of comfort of those in need.
All you
have to join is to inform us and give us your e-mail address. It's
that
simple.
And Glove2Glove is putting together a cruise to raise
money for former
champions Greg Page and Gerald McClellan, both confined to their
homes and
putting a huge financial burden on their loving families.
The cruise leaves from Miami on Nov. 23, and goes to
Ocho Rios, Cozumel and
the Grand Caymans. It's a great 7 day trip, with guests like Angelo
Dundee
coming on board, and is a great way to spend Thanksgiving with family
and
friends, and help a great cause as well. (Keep reading this column
for updates on surprise guests as well as more information about
this event).
You'd think that because of the guests we are arranging
to come on board
with us, this cruise would be very expensive. Quite the opposite
holds
true. We were able to secure a great fare of $669 per person inclusive,
sans airfare to Miami. Cheaper than your average cruise, with great
guests
and for a great cause. And $80 per cabin will be donated to the
Page/McClellan families. Interested? Drop us an e-mail.***
Please say prayers for the Page/McClellan families, who
care for these two
boxers that provided boxing fans with much excitement and now need
their
support in return.***
Please say prayers for the return to health of Susiey

Touching on politics briefly: Sometimes, no matter how
much I try to keep things simple, some folks read something into
my words, that weren’t there, and certainly not intended to
imply anything else.
For some reason a couple of my last editorials pieces
in this space have provoked a few people to think I’m anti
Arab or anti Muslim. Nothing could be further from the truth.
If you wish to put a label on me, feel free to, but make
it anti-terrorist only. I’ll admit to that one!
The vast majority of Arabs and Muslims are honest, hard
working people who raise their families in peace and with respect
for all. They follow the true teachings of the Koran, and of this,
I have no doubt.
It so happens that all the hijackers of 9/11, were all
brainwashed Arab and Muslim. But I never classified them as such.
I classified and continue to classify them for what they were are,
low life terrorists.
And, I would feel exactly the same if these terrorists
were Americans of any decent, trying to overthrow ny country.
I’m not apologizing for my feelings. I love my
country and I have no desire to forgive and forget people who want
to destroy the way of life that many have given their own lives
to protect.
But I am trying to clarify my position, which I never
felt would be necessary, but due to the large amount of mail I get,
I feel is necessary.
If someone is trying to kill you and/or your loved ones,
you don’t speak kindly about them, you get them before they
can get you.
America didn’t start this war, and I certainly
had no part in it, but since our very survival is at stake, we have
to be in a position to end the conflict as quickly as possible,
to preserve, not take extra human lives.
I would love nothing more then to leave this world a
far better place then it was when I came into it.
And if that means getting rid of all these brainwashed
morons, who unfortunately follow a crazed, power hungry leader,
then so be it.
Agree or disagree, feel free to write back, as everyone's
views are valued and respected in my corner.
