PROFESSIONAL BOXING
FEATURING
THE IBU WORLD WELTERWEIGHT TITLE FOR 12 ROUNDS
WITH 'BAD' CHAD BROUSSARD VS HOMER GIBBINS
CO-MAIN EVENT BOBBY AUCOIN IN LOUISIANA CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH 8 ROUNDS
Lafayette, Louisiana.......Culotta Promotions of Lafayette will feature a World Title Fight
for the IBU Welterweight Championship for 12 rounds at the Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette,
Louisiana February 4th.
Now 35 years of age, "Bad" Chad Broussard (53 wins-4 losses-39 KO) get his shot at a
world championship and right in his hometown. He is the hottest fighter on the Gulf
Coast right now as thousands of fans come out to see the power punching boxer/puncher
from Rayne, Louisiana.
Boxing analyst, agent, and publicist Kerry Daigle takes it a step farther saying, "Chad
is unquestionably the hottest main event fighter in the south right now. He is an
excellent boxer with tremendous knockout power early in his fights. The year 2005
was good to Chad as he went 6-1 while avenging his only loss by knocking out tough
Moises Martinez cold in 3 rounds. His last contest was a main event fight at the
Paragon Casino in Marksville, Louisiana where he stopped Corey Alarcon inside of 3 rounds."
Broussard will face his toughest test since his comeback when he meets Homer "The Nature Boy"
Gibbins (43 wins-13 losses-30 KO) from Riverdale, Georgia for the IBU World Welterweight Title.
Both fighters have high knockout records and both are 35 years of age. This is an opportunity
for either fighter to move on to much more lucrative paydays owning a piece of a world title.
Although Broussard fought Sharmba Mitchell for the NABF title in Las Vegas and lost to the hot
prospect who was 30-0 at that time, Gibbins has fought for the WBF Light Welterweight Title in
1992 stopping Broussard's now trainer, Kenny Vice, inside of 7 rounds. He has also fought for
the WBC Continental Americas Light Welterweight Title in 1994 and lost a close 12 round
decision to George Scott who was 21-0 at that time. In 1995 he fought for another world
title against Jake Rodriguez for the WBU Light Welterweight Title losing inside of 8
rounds. The year 1999 brought Gibbins to another title fight against Frank Olsen
(30-1 at that time) for the IBF Inter-Continental Welterweight Title in Denmark
again losing in his last title fight.
This fight could be the most entertaining boxing match in Louisiana for the last 10 years
and expects to be a pure brawl and bloody as both fighters will meet head on in an exciting
brawl. Broussard on paper is the underdog in this fight although Gibbins lost 2 out of his
3 fights in 2005. His last loss was against the very dangerous Marteze Logan (September 2005)
in a close decision. Logan fought a week later upsetting the undefeated Americas Santos on ShoBox.
Shea Bailey who manages Gibbins says, "There is nothing Broussard can bring to the table that we
haven't seen. We've gone the distance with future Hall of Famer Hector Camacho over 12 rounds.
We have beaten Broussard's trainer, Kenny Vice, and understand Vice knows our style of boxing.
We think we have the upper hand mentally also."
Broussard, who has never seen Gibbins fight, vows that he will not lose in Lafayette. "He may have the experience over me," states Broussard, "but I promise the fans will see
me wearing a World Title around my waist come February 4th. I don't care who is in the
opposite corner."
The co-main event will feature up and coming prospect Bobby "The Bayou Bomber" Aucoin
(15-0-1) in an eight round match against the tough Antonio Young (8-10-2) of Meridian,
Mississippi. Although Young brings a .500 record in this fight he has common opponents
Mario Lacey and Billy Ray Gates that he and Aucoin both defeated. Young also has been
in the ring with undefeated Demetrius Hopkins (Bernard Hopkins brother), former world
champions Nate Campbell, Juan Diaz, and Paul Malignaggi and lost a close decision to
hot prospect Antonio Davis.
Other bouts on the card will be:
- Blake "The Candyman" Prevost (7-0-1) vs Martin "Smiley" Verdin (9-6-1) in a 6
round contest Light Heavyweights
- Zane Marks (10-2) vs TBA Middleweights 4 rounds
- Jeremy "The Crusader" Duplechain (5-1) vs TBA Junior Welterweights 4 rounds
- Kasha "The Fighting Marine" (6-0) vs TBA Featherweights (Females) 4 rounds
- "Big" Skip Scott (Pro Debut) vs TBA Heavyweights 4 rounds
Skip Scott is the hot prospect traveling from Houston, Texas to make his professional
debut after 80 kickboxing contests of which he won 75 and was 2-1 as an amateur following
in the footsteps of the Klitschko brothers. Scott is 6' 8" tall and weighs 270 pounds.
Tickets will be available by calling Ticketmaster (337-262-8686) at the Cajundome.
