In Rusty's Corner

By Rusty Rubin, editor-in-chief of the Ringsports.com publication and website advisor is the author of "Off the Canvas", #22873, a view of American history and the social problems of the times, as seen by an 80-year old ex-champion. "Off the Canvas" takes you from the time of the Great Depression till the World Trade Center disaster and is a book that has been getting rave reviews. Copies are $15.00 each available at authorhouse.com, (22873) Ringsports.com and on-line major book retailers.

We're taking orders for autographed copies of "Billy Soose, the Champion Time Forgot" co-authored by Tom Donelson. Soose was the middleweight champion of the world, beating Tony Zale and Ken Overlin in less than a month's time. Since Tom and I live in different parts of the USA, it would be hard to co-ordinate a joint signing, both Tom or I will be available. The book is available now at Authorhouse.com (book id #31809) and other fine on-line outlets. Early sales appear strong.

Buy both books and the recipient will really appreciate your caring, and this writer won't complain one little bit.

My next book, "Woozel, Boxing and Me", #31810 a compilation of true funny boxing stories, oddities and quotes, will be out within the next 3-4 months. "Woozel, Boxing and Me" is a final tribute to my best friend of more than 25 years, who attended many of the boxing events with me. She passed away from colon cancer in Feb. 2004... The early demand for the book has been strong. For advance ordering or to purchase an autographed copy, please advise me ASAP...***

Our website (Ringsports.com) is back up and running thanks to some volunteer help from Diamond, a good friend of ours and obviously of boxing. Diamond is also helping us with the magazine.***

Ricky Hatton won a very close decision over Luis Collazo, but off that performance, I can tell you that he's far from ready to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. He's at least another year away. Collazo fought like a true champion and few would have argued if they scored the fight a draw.

Before Holmes - Spinks 1, the unwritten rule was that you had to take the title from the champion. Don't ask me why, but since then, it's been (or supposed to be) that the guy who wins, wins. Sounds fair to me.***

This week it's Corrales - Castillo III, the rubber match between the two combatants. Corrales seemed to have lost fight one before a great comeback, Castillo easily took their rematch, and now it's time to rumble again. This is a great fight, at least on paper, and it's on free television. Don't miss it! Castillo by late stoppage.

Agree or disagree, we'd like to hear from you. (Rngsportsr@aol.com).

Touching on politics briefly: Glad to hear that well respected humanitarian Osama Bin Laden has told the world that Zacharias Moussoui had nothing to do with 9/11. We already knew that because guys like Moussoui and Richard Reid don't have the brains to fly a plane, let alone target a big building. The guys with the best education are always the leaders and those with the least, get brainwashed, if the brain can even be found in these numb nuts. You never find the real leaders risking their lives in a cause they don't really believe in.

I just returned from a well needed vacation, and I met many nice folks there from other countries who asked how America could re-elect (insert your own words here) Dubya? I'm not an apologist for our President, hell, I didn't even vote for him. But it remains a good question. I'm not sure that Bush won the 2004 election as much as John Kerry lost it. Kerry refused to defend himself on issues that mattered.

Let's put it in simpler terms. Karl Rove is a brilliant strategist and that's something the Dems have lacked for sometime. A no response or defense makes a candidate look week in the eyes of the average American voter.

So don't blame me, but if you want to blame anyone for the re-election of Bush, blame Karl Rove and guys like Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson, who told their followers that Bush would better represent them, and sadly they believed them.

Even the Pope sort of told the faithful that Dubya would be a better choice.

America is a religious country, and there's nothing wrong with that. Most Americans believe in a Supreme Being. But most Americans have more education than the followers of Bin Laden and shouldn't have to be told or advised who to vote for. Religion, just as politics has its place in our country, but as this lesson proved all too well, they should never be combined.

Why can't politicians understand that if you're illegal, you're a crook? And we don't want or need more crooks in America. They may have come here with good intentions and want to support your family, and that's to be respected, but since they broke our laws, it's time to send them back to their home Country and vote out their leaders who clearly don't do anything for them in their own homeland.

President Vincente Fox of Mexico is a prime example. He takes the working class and sends them to America with his blessings so they can send back their hard earned money to support their families, because he sure don't seem to give a damn about them. Neither does the American President or Congress, but they want to legalize them so they can get their cheap labor.

I again state that it makes more financial sense to annex Mexico as our 51st State. If they really want him, let Fox continue to represent his people by serving as a Senator, and have American troops wipe out the drug trade that's coming across our border. Wouldn't Mexico support that? They all seem to want to be citizens anyhow, and our taxes certainly subsidize many.

It's not just Bush who ignored the feelings and needs of Americans in favor of the big corporations, it's all those who have voted and may vote in favor of the joke of a new immigration bill just passed in the U.S. Senate that again screws over the middle class in favor of big business. I have advice for all my readers, make a list of those who don't give a damn about you except in an election year, and show them in November that you feel the same way about them, vote the bums out.

And keep that list in a safe place for 2008. We need real leaders in America not guys who don't give a damn about their constituents. We elect leaders to represent us, not special interests that contribute to their political campaigns.

Don't worry, only a Congressman who's a complete idiot would support this bill as it means (according to every poll I've seen) that they won't get re-elected because the vast majority of Americans (legal ones) don't want people who are breaking our laws allowed to live in our Country, and they are the ones who vote.

Forget political correctness, if they broke our laws, they are illegal and if they get away with this, why should we think they will respect any other of our laws? But a group of Senators obviously don't care or respect our laws either.

You don't need to be a Republican or a Democrat to vote these clowns out of office, just someone with a semblance of an education and who feels that voting for Congress and President is far more important than voting for an "American Idol", not that such a thing really exists.***

Memorial Day should be everyday, as we should never forget those who gave their all so that America would remain free and strong. God bless our troops.

Agree or disagree, I'd like to hear from you.
