www.keeppunching.com Juan De la Rosa, a former fighter from THE CONTENDER series television show produced by Sylvester Stallone and Sugar Ray Leonard, with a professional record of 17 wins, 1 defeat, and 1 draw, will face a fighter with a losing record, Mikel Williams, who owns a record of only 7 wins against 18 defeats with 4 draws. That is where the bout takes on an interesting twist. De la Rosa's only loss has come at the hands of Mikel Williams. Williams did not only beat De la Rosa but stopped him inside of 8 rounds in the hometown area of the Mexican born prospect on De la Rosa's promoter's show. Del la Rosa wants the rematch, while Williams is waiting to prove he can do it all over again. Mikel was losing as the bout moved to the eighth and decisive round and his father remembered the advice he gave his son. “He came to the corner and I told him he had to win the fight because he had to stop him or he was going to lose. He went out and took care of business.” While Williams has a losing record, his record can be deceiving. With Williams’ four draws against favored fighters and at least five other fights that were extremely controversial and could have gone his way, the Louisiana boxer could easily tout a 16- 13 record. Williams has taken many fights with less than seven days notice, some as little as one day. Williams traveled to Houston, Texas to take on undefeated Jose Gutierrez and not only beats him but knocks Gutierrez out in his hometown. Williams was offered a rematch a year later with Gutierrez with only a 4 day notice and wins a unanimous decision. Then enters another undefeated fighter, De la Rosa, and Williams wins again by knockout. This fight is being offered to both fighters with enough time to train to make a statement. “I have trained harder for this fight,” Williams said. “I have done more sparring and more running.” This fight can prove that Williams is as good as he was in the amateurs winning major titles and give him the fire for him to move forward and make things happen in his career. “I don’t want to lose to him,” Williams said. “He is not going to hold anything back.” Williams, from Monroe, LA has another reason to want to win the May 12 battle. “I have trained harder for this rematch,” Williams said. “I was losing all through the first seven rounds and I knew I had to knock him out in the eighth round to win the fight. “He has a longer jab than me so I have to work to get inside to get me a good shot,” Williams added. “Come May 12th, he will see what I have.” To get tickets for the fights at the Mari Center at the Paragon Casino Resort go to www.paragoncasinoresort.com or call 1.800.WIN.1.WIN.
