In Rusty’s Corner
By Rusty Rubin, editor-in-chief of the Ringsports.com
publication and website advisor is the author of
“Woozel, Boxing and Me” (Authorhouse.com #31810).
This book has been given 4 ½ stars at Amazon.com
and recently was awarded “Boxing Book of the Year” by 13thround.com.
Woozel, Boxing and Me is compilation of many funny and true boxing stories, oddities and quotes,
and serves as a final tribute to Susiey Walker, my zany best friend of more than 25 years,
who loved life and lived it to the max.
Wuz traveled and attended many boxing events with me and thus created many of those unforgettable
moments with her positive attitude and bubbly personality. Sue passed away in Feb. 2004.
The book reviews have all been great and the early demand for this work, one of the funniest
boxing books ever written, has been strong.
“Off the Canvas”, #22873, is a view of American history and the social problems of the times,
as seen by an 80-year old ex-champ. “Off the Canvas” takes you from the time of the Great Depression
till the World Trade Center disaster and is a book that has been getting rave reviews.
Available at Authorhouse.com, (#22873)
Ringsports.com and on-line major book retailers.***
“Billy Soose, the Champion Time Forgot” #31809, co-authored by Tom Donelson, is also available.
Soose was the middleweight champion of the world, beating greats like Tony Zale and Ken Overlin
in less than a month’s time. The book is available at Authorhouse.com and other fine
on-line outlets. Sales have been strong.***
All three books are available at Authorhouse.com and other fine on-line outlets.
Sales have remained strong.
Speaking of worthwhile books, pick up a copy of “Boxing in the Shadows”
by my fellow author and friend, Tom Donelson. It’s an educational and enjoyable read.
Any of these books will make a great birthday or holiday present and add greatly to the library
of that ‘special’ sports fan in your life.
Being a journalist, I’ve found that the highest tribute that one can receive is positive
comments about his chosen field of work. I thank everyone who has made those comments to me,
either in person or other means of communication. Thank you.***
Autographed editions are limited and should be ordered at least 30 days in advance.***
Again allow me to warn you that other people are spamming using my name and e-mail address.
It’s not me and my advice is not to open anything you’re not expecting. Feel free
to check with me if you have and questions.***
Being a journalist, I’ve learned that the highest tribute that one can receive is positive

I recently got a letter from an 87 year old boxing guy from the Bay Area, William Leary. His kind
words touched my heart. Thank you.***
Circle the date of June 9th when Miguel Cotto takes on Zab Judah in Madison Square Garden.
It doesn’t get much better than that. And on June 23rd, Ricky Hatton takes on Jose Luis
Castillo at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.***
The 18th Annual Hall of Fame Weekend is scheduled for June 7-10th in Canastota NY. If you require
more information or wish to attend call the Hall at (315) 697-7095 of visit the ibhof.com.***
May 15 -20 is the date for the North American Boxing Federation Convention, this year held in Cancun,
Mexico, at the Riu Palace Las Americas. For information call the NABF at 303-442-0288/

held at the Deauville Hotel in Miami, Fla. For more information call the IBF at (973) 414-0300.
For those not familiar with boxing conventions, it’s not only an interesting and fun time,
but you get to meet some of the great fighters of past and present.***
My old friend from the UK, former light heavyweight and Lonsdale Belt winner, Tony Wilson has a new
website for you to check out, it’s www.tonywilsonboxing.co.uk.
Since I’ll be gone for almost a month, I figure I’d better get in my pick for the
Oscar v. Mayweather fight on May 5th.
I see the fight as a win for the golden boy, as Mayweather is moving up two more weight divisions
for this clash (and the payday) and has never really been hit by anyone of Oscar’s size.
I see De la Hoya using his strong left hook counter to keep “Pretty Boy” at bay
throughout the fight, and win a unanimous decision.
I know Oscar is getting older and doesn’t fight enough to be ‘sold’ on his
winning, but he is in shape, and as long as his legs don’t betray him chasing Mayweather,
he should be the stronger fighter throughout.
De La Hoya wins by decision.
Also I see no problem with Joe Calzaghe easily beating Peter Manfredo Jr., based on what
Calzaghe has done to younger and better fighters then Peter, most recently Jeff Lacy. Only
problem with Calzaghe is that he doesn’t train as well for easier opponents as he does
for tough ones. Still Calzaghe wins a fairly easy unanimous decision.
This weekend, look for Jorge Solis to give Manny Pacquiao a tougher fight than expected before
losing by a late TKO in San Antonio.
