1/27/07 - Action Sports Worldwide Magazine Houston and it’s surrounding area loves boxing, both professional and amateur!.... The Houston area is surrounded with enormous boxing professionals and developing amateur talents. This year’s 2007 recent Gulf Coast USA Boxing amateur - Golden Gloves Tournament competitions opened on January 24th with a standing room only audience with a record first day of just over # 2,800 plus attendance and over # 400 participant entries. It took two rings of knockout action and approximately 25 plus bouts a night to make the event a total success that lasted well into the late nights to get all of the bouts scheduled produced. Boxing is a part of the southeastern area of the state that is certainly on the rise. The Texas Combative Sports Commission is reporting record highs of promotion companies applying for promoters licenses to produce consistent local area ring action dates. Research has shown Houston to be the number one pay-per-view combative sports market, even more buys out of Houston than Las Vegas or New York City. Houston is a very marketable site for the growing sport and of course for companies that are trying to brand products or services. The Bella Aida Gardens venue, home to the southeastern Gulf Coast USA Boxing–Golden Gloves Tournament Competitions has been smart enough to capitalize on the growing trend. Of late the venue has hosted several successful professional and amateur dates and has contracts in place for several more upcoming dates for 2007 and 2008 to include amateur and professional boxing, MMA and wrestling.
