www.keeppunching.com As an advisor for Damian Fuller, the “First Lady of Boxing,” Kallen said she is excited Fuller added to the card at Coushatta Casino July 14 in the “Shoot Out at Coushatta”. Fuller will be fighting Carlos Gamez for the NBA World Lightweight Championship. I have known Damian for 15 years or so,” Kallen said of her relationship with Fuller. “He is the consummate professional. He is always in the gym and he is always ready for whatever you put in front of him. “You never have to worry about Damian Fuller coming into a fight out of shape or slow. He is always really on top of his game, which is a wonderful trait in a fighter.” “I would like to see Damian win this one and in two or three fights get a chance at another world championship,” Kallen said of her boxer. Fuller turned pro in 1998 and is presently 28-4-1 in his career, including 13 KO’s. “He is a very slick boxer,” Kallen said. “He is a southpaw and that give a lot of people a little bit of trouble. “He is a difficult boxer to fight,” she continued. “He has good defense and he is a well rounded fighter. “Some people are great punchers but they can’t stay out of the way of anything,” she commented. “Some are very slick but they can’t really hurt you. I think Damian is a good combination.” Fuller, 29, is coming off a third round TKO of Dean White on May 12 in Fairfax, Virginia on the undercard of a Jimmy Lane fight. Fuller hasn’t lost a fight in over four years, according to Kallen. His last defeat was against Deigo Corrales (40-5) in 2003. Corrales was killed in May in a motorcycle accident in Las Vegas. Fuller won the vacant IBF Inter-Continental Lightweight Title with a unanimous 12-round decision over Lamar Murphy on April 30, 2004 in Hammond, Indiana. He also won the NABC Lightweight Title when he defeated John Hoffman on Nov. 29, 2003 with a first round TKO in Lafayette, Indiana. Fuller won the NBA Intercontinental Lightweight Title with a unanimous decision over Michael Davis on May 3, 2002 in his hometown of Detroit. He captured his first belt – the vacant Mid-Western Lightweight Title – with a unanimous decision over Roberto Ortega at the Club International in Detroit on March 29, 2002. Kallen said Fuller’s opponent Gamez (17-5, 9 KOs) is left handed, which could make for an interesting bout. Gamez, 31, began his career 14-1, but has gone 3-4 since 2004, winning a split decision over Bernardo Montes in his last fight on May 4 in Navojoa, SON, Mexico. “This will be his first in the states,” Kallen pointed out. “Hispanic fighters are very brave. They come to win, they don’t just find a corner and lay down. “Any time you are fighting a Hispanic fighter, you are going to have to fight for your win.” Also on the card are Houston’s Daniel Garcia and Michael Martinez as well as Lafayette’s undefeated Wilford Scypion, Jr. Scypion’s father - Wilford Sr. finished his flashy career 32-9 including a championship bout against Marvin Hagler on May 5, 1983 for the WBC, WBA and IBF belts. Local Louisiana favorite Heath “Lil Rocky” Nichols will be battling for the NBA Junior World Lightweight Championship as he seeks to keep his perfect record (5-0).
